Default Help connecting home theater Sub to A/V Receiver? - 09-16-2011, 10:38 PM

i bought a home theater set that the receiver didnt work on. i have a 2006 pioneer receiver that works well though. my sub has 2 sets of inputs both red/black push tabs for bare wire. why is there 2 sets of inputs? and my receiver has rca outputs. i found a wire at radioshack that has male rca on one end and bare wire on the other. will this cable work to connect the two? thanks.

let me make sure i understand... your receiver has a standard pre-amp subwoofer output and your subwoofer has speaker level (bare wire) inputs. in this case you don't have to use the subwoofer pre-amp output, you can connect it to your receivers speaker level outputs. you just connect it in parallel with your speakers. the problem with this method is that it requires you to set your main speakers on, ''''''large speaker''''''. you probably do not want to do this.

you can try the cable from radio shack but most likely the pre-amp output isn't going to provide enough output to drive the speaker level inputs. if you were familiar with electronics you could modify your subwoofer bypassing the speaker level inputs internally but short of that you may be forced to just buy a different subwoofer.
