i have a 2010 panasonic viera plasma tv and today i just bought a component for xbox 360. i have this old home theatre system i wanted the audio from the home system not from the tv. everything works but the highest resolution i get from the tv is 1080i out of the component cables. i have a hdmi cable and it gives me 1080p but not the component. am i doing something wrong or is it the tv? i try setting it to 1080p but it blacks out for a few seconds then its back to 1080i.

originally hdmi was the only way to have 1080p resolutions, due to their copyright over it. this may be the case for you aswell. mine does the same thing

componets max res. output is 1080i very few can out put 1080p hdmi is the best choice for hd.

the problem is your tv doesn't support 1080p through component. you will have to use hdmi. very few tvs support 1080p through component.
