Default hdtv movies on cable vs. blue ray question - 02-08-2009, 08:34 PM

we have a blue ray player, and true hd tv large screen lcd tv, and i have noticed sometimes the movies on the hd channels are not always as clear or smooth as the blue ray. i know this may be a dumb question, but can someone clarify. for example, today i watched the fugitive in hd from the cable on demand, and the picture was ''''''shuddering'''''' more that usual in certain panning shots, like an overhead shot of a city looking downward from a helicopter. can someone shed some light on this? i have made sure the hdmi cables for both connections are of excellent quality.

thanks in advance

hd cable and blu-ray are two different worlds. the problem is companies love to throw around the words hi-def and the consumer figures its all the same. blu-ray has a far better picture quality (pq) than any cable/sat is going to offer. then there is even a difference of pq on blu-rays, the pq is affected by how the film was transfered from the master source to the blu-ray and there are other reasons but i couldnt go over all of them here.

the fugitave has a few flaws in the video to begin with in panning sceens if i remember right.
