Thumbs up YMCA – Community Outreach - 06-23-2011, 02:11 AM

ymca, by its very mission, has gone a long way in building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. there are different forms of community building efforts at different branches. nonetheless they always include the opportunity to volunteer on a board, contribute to a fund raising effort, and also to volunteer directly in programs like youth sports. the local community also comes together at ymca which acts as their meeting place. the ycma builds strong communities every day by either bringing people together or by reaching out to meet a specific community need.

the ymca of metropolitan dallas foundation offers a scholarship program for youth who are graduating high school seniors living in the dallas area. the students are selected based on college entrance exam scores, high school grades, financial circumstances, community service and his or her personal motivation and desire for furthering their education.

the ymca of metropolitan dallas and big brothers big sisters of north texas have a partnership and they together provide unlimited guest access to all the ymca branches where the elders and youngsters of big brothers big sisters can hang out and conduct many activities. the ymca provides a perfect environment to nurture the relationship between the bigs and the littles and offer activities like swimming, court sports, wellness classes, monthly fun nights and others.

victron energy supports the efforts of waxahachie ymca by making annual donations. victron energy’s president and ceo, ali sharaf, feels that he is able to help the community also by continuously supporting ymca.
