hi i have lost my remote for my sony blu ray player. if i have the movie on the main menu screen. will it play on it's own if i just leave it on or do i need the remote for it to play?

you need the remote...
but
is there a 'play' button on the bd player? if so, press it.

the menu of a dvd at least needs a play button to start the movie, if there is no play button or select button (with directional buttons) on your player you will need the remote.

all players have a manual operation that you can push on the player to play the movie. you don't need the remote to do that. open the owners manual and it will provide you to manually operate the system. you can also purchase one from sony or buy a universal remote. hope this will help you out.

the remote is a spare part. ring sony and quote the blu-ray player model number. they will give you a part number where you can order it through them.
