i bought a ps3 two weeks ago. bought my first game at that time which was lego star wars the complete saga. i am enjoying this game but also ready to try something new. narrowed my choices down to uncharted greatest hits dual pack or red dead redemption. i know i will get both but only have the money for one of them at this time any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. also, if you have suggestions for other games i am open for suggestions. i am 40 yrs old and this is my first gaming system. bought it mainly for netflix but would like to play some games also. was going to just buy a blu ray player but got a steal on this system and couldn't pass it up. one month old ps3 160gb for $130.

personally, id go with uncharted because it is the best exclusive on the ps3.
other games to get: ratchet and clank, killone 2 and 3, resistance, gran turismo, etc

you cant go wrong either way with uncharted or red dead. however, the uncharted pack has 2 games for the price of one. and with uncharted 3 coming out in a little over 8 weeks. you might want to bone up on the escapades of nathan drake.

alo give these a shot:

first person shooters(fps)
resistance series(3 just hit stores but there is also a dual pack with the first two games)
killzone: 2 and 3 are already out on shelves.

action games:

lair
god of war collection(the first two ps2 games remastered in 720p glory)
god of war 3(the finale of the kratos story arc, amazing visuals)
god of war origins(psp titles remastered for the ps3)
heavenly sword(god of war, with a girl)

action/adventure:

folklore
uncharted series
assassin' creed series
ratchet and clank future series
3d dot game heroes(it doesn't need a 3d tv, just in case you're wonderin)

i guess the obvious choice are the exclusives.
the uncharted pack you mention is a great option -- they're great games. red dead redemption is insanely good too, so not a bad choice either way.
it obviously depends on what genres you like, but as a general suggestion, i'd recommend looking into some titles in the future... such as:
heavy rain
demon's souls
battlefield series
dragon age
gran turismo 5

also be on the lookout for upcoming titles!:

the elder scrolls v: skyrim
twisted metal
modern warfare 3
