my playstation three plays regular dvds and games but when i put in a blu ray movie a message appears that says this movie is set to the highest standards and that i need to update my blu ray player but i do and it still doesnt work help plz.
i am not using an hd tv or hdmi cords and all games are blu ray so thats why im confuses

if your aren't using an hd t.v or hdmi cords, it may affect if you can watch blu-ray as a video format

mostly any game for ps3 using blu ray so it may be your settings.

if you are using an hdmi, and a hd t.v
do this:

settings,
display settings,
hdml,
check every box including 1080p
hit save
try and see if this works

i don't understand how it doesn't play blu-ray movies, but plays games (which are blu-ray discs too).

you could try use dvdfab blu-ray ripper to convert your bd disk to mp4 video format. it can rip any blu-ray to video/audio with a variety of popular formats so that they can be played on your specific player device.
