Default Can my DTS-HD incompatible amp still play the DTS in the DTS-HD track? - 08-28-2011, 05:19 PM

my blu ray player is a ps3
i'm not really sure what amp i have, it is a sony and has 6.2 channel (yes 6.2...) but i am positive that it can decode dts
and if so i would appreciate it if someone could tell me what settings my ps3 needs to be in.
p.s my ps3 is connected via hdmi to my tv and my tv is connected to my amp via optical

dts-hd master audio will only work on amplifiers that can decode it. it will not work using optical or coax cable and will work only on hdmi 1.4.

your receiver has to have a dts decoder for you to be able to hear the dts audio. power amplifiers do not have a decoder. more than likely you have a receiver that is 6.2 as you stated, i have not seen or read any receiver that are in 6.2. most receivers in the market are either in 5.1 or 7.1 some new receivers do have a 7.2. each receiver will have a logo on the top or front of the receiver on what it can decode. your owners manual will also provide that. keep in mind that it has to has the dts-hd to decode the dts-hd. hope this will help you out.
