Default Connecting internet to TV, Blu-Ray and Laptop - HELP!!!? - 08-28-2011, 04:47 PM

ok, this is really starting to drive me crazy. i am by no means a computer expert, but i have a little experience setting up my own home network.

i have cable internet internet that comes into my house and, via a linksys reuter is hardwired to various locations in my home.

what i want to do is link the computer in my office, with my laptop and my internet-ready tv and blu-ray player in my basement.

i figured i could just connect my wireless linksys reuter in the basement and connect the tv and blu-ray player with an ethernet cable directly to the reuter. then my laptop and computer in my office could connect to the reuter wirelessly.

so far no luck.

if i connect the hard-wired line in the basement to the internet jack on the reuter with an ethernet cable i can pick up the internet signal wirelessly on my laptop and computer but my tv and blu-ray (connected directly to reuter) will not recognize the signal.

however if i connect the hard-wired line in the basement to one of the ethernet ports on the reuter then the tv and blu-ray (connected directly to the reuter) receive the internet signal but i can no longer receive the internet wirelessly on my computer or laptop.

what am i missing here?

ideally what i want to do is get an internet signal to all of my devices and allow computer to act as a media to watch video from my computer on my tv.

should be simple but after 3 hours of trying to configure it - no luck.

any ideas? is there a simple solution i'm missing here????
to clarify part of my issue:

if i connect the hard-wired network cable in my basement to the 'internet' jack on the router - and then plug my laptop, tv and blu-ray into the ethernet jacks on the router only the laptop will recognize the internet signal.

however if i instead connect the network cable to the 'ethernet' jack on the router then the tv and blu-ray suddenly connect to the internet but my laptop no longer recognizes the signal.

what is happening here?
