Question Which Blu-Ray Player to Buy? - 06-22-2009, 04:04 PM

hi everyone, this is my first time on this site and i sure hope someone can give me some advice! i'm totally new to the blu-ray world and my mind is boggled with details.

i just ordered a samsung 46b750 tv and want to buy a blu-ray player that i can use with netflix. i definitely don't want a samsung because too many reviews on noise, slow to load and other issues. the units i'm looking at are:
panasonic dmp-bd60 1080p
panasonic dmp-bd80 1080p 7.1 channel
lg bd 370 network blu-ray
lg bd 390 network blu-ray

i don't watch a lot of movies but want the capability of hd quality with my older dvd's while i work on building a blu-ray collection. i also want the ability of automatic upgrades thru the unit. the lg 390 has the wifi built in. do all of these units automatically upconvert? i'm really new to all of this lingo so bear with me. any advice will be appreciated. by the way, my first choice would have been sony but i was told that sony doesn't make a unit that uses netflix. that seems strange to me since i'm also told that netflix type capabilities are the future. help!!!!

the new samsung players are some of the fastest players on the market. the older models had some problems but the new models are all excellent players.

what is blu-ray?
blu-ray, also known as blu-ray disc (bd), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the blu-ray disc association (bda), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including apple, dell, hitachi, hp, jvc, lg, mitsubishi, panasonic, pioneer, philips, samsung, sharp, sony, tdk and thomson). the format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (hd), as well as storing large amounts of data. the format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional dvds and can hold up to 25gb on a single-layer disc and 50gb on a dual-layer disc. this extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented hd experience.
