i am looking to buy my husband a blu ray player for his birthday, and we have a new 55 inch hdtv, with 5 hdmi inputs. but our audio stereo is 5.1 digital, but the inputs are only component. i read reviews of players where people say, just plug in the hdmi into the tv and it works, etc. our new tv works fine with the components we have hooked up, a dvd player/burner and the amp. can anyone shed any light on this? does this fact limit the player i can buy? sorry i am not more knowledgable. my son said he thinks any player would work ok, because we would be getting the sound through the tv? any ideas? thanks in advance.

if you have receiver/amp with hdmi interface you should be able to just connect the your blu-ray player via hdmi to get 1080p resolution and 5.1 digital audio. most blu-ray player will come with optical or coaxial digital audio output that you can use to connect to your amp. you should'nt have any problem with most blu-ray players to work with your set up. hope this helps. if not just let us know.
