i thought that since there is a lot of people in the market for a new or additional blu ray player, i would start a thread so that others can help others choose the right blu ray player for them. please ask questions and help answer others who may be undecided on what to look for when shopping for a blu ray player.

my advice would be to first set a price point that you would want to stick within. from there, you can start comparison.

i agree downtownjb, you need to start with a dollar amount before you start shopping. but there are other things you need to consider:

they can be kind of expensive, so you don't want to go with the cheapest one, think of it as an investment.

if anyone likes video games in your home, buy a ps3. this way you will have a blu ray player, and a video gaming console. you can always purchase a stand alone blu ray player in the future.

look at your home theater system. make sure that they are all compatible with each other, or consider buying a home theater system with your blu ray player at the same time.

i chose mine by price. i'm sorry but i can be kind of cheap. i like anything that has to do with entertainment, but i am a cheap kind of person.

read some of the reviews on players you are looking to buy. they do vary a lot when it comes to video and audio quality. also, your home theater set up should factor into the decision. they television set and receiver for example.

i think it is best to buy all the things you will need at once, if you can afford to do so. it is the best because you can get everything to correspond to each other.
