Default PS3 Not Reading Discs? - 08-22-2011, 02:18 PM

well my 160 gig slim ps3 just stopped reading discs the other day when i froze on a loading screen. i was loading up another match of bfbc2 online when it froze. i just turned it off, waited a while, then turned it back on. when i turned it back on, it didnt read the disc (i left it inside while it was off) so i took it out, cleaned it, put it back in, and the loading thingy up top just kept spinning. i thought maybe it was the disc so i put in brink since i just got it about 2 days before, so i knew it was a new disc. i kept trying and trying and finally after about 5 tries it read the disc. when i started up a match, it froze again on the loading screen. i left it off for about 2 days then plugged it in yesterday and tryed it. it took many tries again to read, yet it still froze, and also it wouldnt read my blu-ray movies.
i would send it to sony but i dont know how the warranty stuff works. i havent had it for a year yet and i was also wondering, if i were to send it to sony, would i get my same hard drive back?
please leave any advice (how to fix or what to do) or info on the warranty, i would really appreciate it
yep i forgot to add that it does play my downloaded games like infamous, battlefield 1943, medal of honor frontlines, and all the mini games i got free from ps plus.

you need to call sony for a repair cause your laser burnt out i had the same problem. call them at 1-800-345-7669 and speak to a representative about repairing your console the warranty isn't that hard to figure out basically, it won't cost anything for the repair they'll go into more detail when you talk to them, when you speak to them they'll ask for your number and name after they ask that and say how they can help you explain to them you have a problem with your ps3 its not reading disc i'd like to set up a repair along side with your hard drive im sorry to say you'll need to reformat it before sending it out

it could be a hard drive error seeing as though bc2 is always accessing it and the game froze. blu ray movies and games both use the hdd so it may be the problem. of you can play demos or downloaded games than it would be the blu ray drive though.

this used to happen to me with my old ps3. at first i thought it was the laser that was screwed, but it turns out the laser was not even in the right place anymore. take it apart and you know the thing the laser sits on? move backwards as far as it will go. this may require mild forcing it. it might work again after that. if that doesn't work, disassemble the blu ray player, then reassemble it. if it still doesn't work, then the laser is most likely broken.

another possibility is that the blu ray ribbon cable has gone bad, but this is very very unlikely.
