or at least much much better than normal standard video.

i know it related to progressive scan and the all digital signal (no noise/signal loss). but can anyone give me a brief, easy to understand answer?

it all depends on how experienced you are watching video and how big is your tv.

to the untrained eye, on a small tv, maybe there is not much difference.
but on a big tv, say 42'''''' it is very easy to see the difference.
some hdtvs do a very good upscaling job as well.

they don't look like bluray. they are, however, up scaled to 1080p this process is not without problems.

becasue:

1. dvd has more horizontal resoution than most digital sd tv delivery, and more vertical resolution than analog tv.

2. progressive improves it. upconversion improves it more.
