Default Stuttering problem with VC-1 encoded Blu-ray? - 06-13-2011, 12:41 PM

my reason for purchasing wd tv live was so i could transfer my favourite blu-rays onto my wd hard drive and protect the blu-rays from scratching. most blu-rays i ripped format play well. but i have noticed there seems to be a problem with some blu-rays (about one-third of all my blu ray movies). wd tv live start to play but don't have a smooth playback... it stutters terribly, making playback unwatchable. after reading the forums i've determined the common denominator for all the choppy videos is that they are all vc-1 encoded videos.

kindly asking someone to play a vc-1 blu-ray on their wdtv, does it work?

i suppose wd tv does not handle vc-1 videos well for the time being, and a future firmware update may get this fixed.

i had suffered vc-1 playback issues since my purchasing live hub. now i use pavtube bytecopy for bluray backup. when i copy bluray for wdtv, i always choose 'hd player' option. this option is intelligent: it examines the bluray codec before ripping movie into mkv and transcode vc-1 blurays to h.264 automatically. as to h.264 blurays, it does directly copy to mkv. i haven't met any problems with h.264 videos.

hope my experience gives you some hint.
