Mel Gibson’s follow up to the box office hit The Passion of the Christ was not as profitable. Apocalypto was fairly well received by the critics. However, the subject matter and some of the violent scenes might have rendered it family unfriendly. While the subject matter of ancient Mayan kingdom might have been fine, the very violent sequences were lambasted by some viewers. While the movie is violent, the reality of human sacrifice is well documented and even more horrific than the movie’s portrayal.

Though the movie is not as good as the Passion of Christ, some parts of the movie are worth watching. We should appreciate the way the Mayan Kingdom is shown in the movie. Mel Gibson, as usual, performed well in the movie.
