a new blu-ray laser developed by sharp could lead to 100gb disks in near future. the new blue-violet laser is capable of reading triple and quadruple layered disks instead of single or double. each layer is capable of holding 25gb of data. the strength of the laser will not only increase the total capacity, but also increase the overall writing speed. the burner equipped with this laser could hit 8x writing speed across 4 layers. while all this is great news, the main problem with blu-ray recording is the prohibitive cost of the media. most people are still satisfied with the cheap single or dual layer dvd which cost a lot less than the blu-ray medias. |
