Question Blu Ray Recordable Disks - 01-22-2009, 08:20 AM

why are the prices of a blu ray recordable disk so expensive? i was pricing them out online and found a 15 pack spindle and it was $77. i thought that was a little out of line.

is it because of the technology that blu ray has to offer, or is it something that is new and it will come down in price over time? are they worth it?

remember when dvd recordable disks first became available? they were rediculousy expensive, over $1.00 a piece if i recall. now you can find them dirt cheap. i think in time they will come down significantly in price, but i don't know if they will ever be as cheap as dvds have gotten.

the space that a blu ray disk holds is 50gb, which is so much bigger than a regular dvd. so in short, i am sure that they will go down in price.

i think if you keep searching you could find a better price than $77. they are still quite expensive, but like houdini said, they will come down a little in price with time. may i ask, what will you be using these disks for? i like the fact that they can hold so much more than a traditional dvd. 50gb is a lot of storage space!

the blu ray disks will come down over time. look what has started to happen to the bu ray movies they were close to $30 dollars for more or less ever movie and now they are $15-$25 for most of them. the players come down then the movies come down and then the blu ray disks will follow them in the downward trend.

see, i really don't think that they will go down in price a ton, the technology costs so much. think about how many dvds could fit onto one blu ray! they will go down in price many years from now when something else comes along to replace blu ray, which will be awhile from now.

50gb x 15 pieces = 750gb for $77
that is still way cheaper than 1 single 750gb sata hdd
but as others said, better be patient and wait till the price drop to a more reasonable price for recorded media.
